Interventional Radiology
Minimally invasive procedures performed with precision
Interventional Radiology at Winchester Hospital
Interventional radiology uses imaging technology to perform minimally invasive procedures. IR procedures can be a great alternative to surgery, with decreased risks and recovery time. Most interventional radiology procedures are done on an outpatient basis. This means you may be able to go home the same day as your procedure.
At Winchester Hospital, our interventional radiologists perform these procedures in our state-of-the-art Philips Integris Angiography suite. This suite allows us to safely perform:
- Diagnostic biopsies of nodules and masses (thyroid, lymph nodes, lung, liver, kidney, bones and other organs)
- Drainage for acute or chronic fluid collections- including advanced sclerotherapy to remove chronic and unwanted seromas or other cysts
- Placement of Chemo-Ports, dialysis catheters and other vascular access devices
- Vertebral augmentation and kyphoplasty to treat vertebral compression fractures
- Specialized ablation procedures for lower back pain (Basivertebral Nerve Ablation)
- Embolization for painful testicular varicoceles
- Embolization for pelvic congestion syndrome due to enlarged ovarian veins
- Uterine artery embolization to treat uterine fibroids
- Joint injections for pain including small joints of the hand, ankle or foot
- Angiograms, Angioplasty of arterial and venous stenosis
- Stent placement in blood vessels to improve blood flow
- Dialysis access procedures
- Procedures to remove fluid from the lungs or abdominal cavity
