Cancer Treatments Offered at Winchester Hospital

If you've recently been diagnosed with Cancer, the caring team at Winchester Hospital is here to treat you and care for you every step of the way.

During the most trying of times, our patients value the personal attention we offer. Our advanced treatment options are available here in your local community. And you can find comfort by remaining close to your support systems and loved ones.

Cancer surgery is an operation to repair or remove part of your body to diagnose or treat cancer. Your doctor can use cancer surgery to:

  • Diagnose the cancer
  • Treat the cancer
  • Relieve symptoms caused by the cancer

In some cases, cancer surgery may be your only treatment. In other cases, you may need other treatments, such as radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy or immunotherapy.

Medical Oncology/Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy uses drugs to treat a disease. There are several ways to receive anticancer drugs. These include:

  • By mouth with pills, tablets, capsules and syrups
  • By injections or infusions into your bloodstream
  • By injections into your muscles

Whatever the form of anticancer medication, chemotherapy is usually no more painful to take than any other drug given in the same manner.

An oncology certified nurse gives all chemotherapy medications. A four-person check system (your physician, a pharmacist and two oncology nurses) carefully checks and calculates each dose.

Radiation Oncology

Our radiation therapy program offers you the latest in advanced treatment options. Learn more about our radiation therapy offerings.

Molecular-Targeted Cancer Treatment

Molecular-targeted cancer therapies are drugs or other substances that block the spread of cancer. They block it by interfering with specific molecules involved in tumor growth. This treatment includes drugs that:

  • Deliver toxic drugs to cancer cells
  • Interfere with the signals needed for cell growth or the blood vessels that feed a tumor
  • Promote the death of specific cancer cells
  • Stimulate the immune system to destroy specific cancer cells

What do these treatments mean for you? It means that at Winchester Hospital you’ll get high-quality care in a personalized manner from a team of experts. We’ll be here by your side for every step of your cancer journey.
