At Winchester Hospital, we understand that children need and deserve special attention when they are ill or injured. The pediatric staff at Winchester Hospital focuses on each child's unique needs while using a family-centered care approach.

Our team makes every effort to involve parents and families in all aspects of a child's care. You are an important member of your child's health care team. You know your child best and serve as an advocate for their health and well-being. Our approach helps reduce the stress and anxiety you and your child may feel about a hospital stay.

Winchester Hospital is committed to making your child as comfortable as possible while at the hospital. We encourage parents or guardians to speak with the care team to discuss any aspect of your child's hospital visit. We value feedback and consider your suggestions in our future planning.

Specialty Care Close to Home

To ensure your child receives care for the specific health issue they face, we are proud to offer several specialty care programs:

Children’s Asthma Management provides free support to help you manage your child’s asthma.

Pediatric Rehabilitation Program offers a range of children’s rehabilitation services and therapies to help your child succeed.

Pediatric Weight Management provides tools to help your child make healthy lifestyle choices and changes.

Pediatric Emergency Care Consultations with pediatric specialists are available 24 hours a day.

We also work closely with pediatric specialists in other areas, such as otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), orthopedics and general surgery. Through our partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital, we offer pediatric gastroenterology and neurological care here at Winchester Hospital. This partnership allows us to provide on-site care for many of these services.

Winchester Hospital offers a Level IIB Special Care Nursery and Pediatric Emergency Department. Pediatricians, neonatologists and pediatric emergency medicine specialists from Boston Children's Hospital to provide inpatient care around the clock, whenever you need it.

Pediatric Inpatient Care

If your child is in our care for Pediatric Surgery, nurses on our pediatric inpatient floor are trained and educated in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). This ensures the best care for your child. We encourage you to stay overnight with your child during their inpatient stay.

Our pediatric inpatient care team includes:

• Case managers
• Chaplains
• Dietitians
• Lactation consultants
• Pediatric registered nurses (RNs)
• Pediatricians
• Respiratory therapists

We also have a pet therapy dog on staff. The dog can visit interested children once a week.

The pediatric floor has a playroom with games and art supplies. If your child is scheduled for surgery, you are welcome to take a tour before the operation. This can help your child feel more comfortable by knowing what to expect.
