Magnet Recognition

Five Magnet designations to reflect our commitment to nursing excellence

Magnet Designation Reflects Our Commitment to Nursing Excellence

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the credentialing branch of the American Nurses Association, has recognized Winchester Hospital with its highest distinction for Nursing Excellence and quality patient care, ANCC Magnet Recognition Program. Magnet designated organizations demonstrate collaborative practice where high-functioning interprofessional teams work together to achieve quality patient outcomes.

In 2003, Winchester Hospital became the first community hospital in Massachusetts to earn this prestigious achievement. More than twenty years later, in 2024, our team was honored with its fifth designation as a Magnet organization.

The Magnet Program recognizes healthcare organizations that demonstrate a commitment to excellence in nursing and quality of service. This translates to better patient outcomes. A Magnet-designated organization allows nurses to thrive in a professional practice environment, helping them reach their full potential and to practice with greater autonomy. Magnet organizations are well-positioned to be the leaders in transforming the future of healthcare.

Less than 10% of healthcare organizations in the United States have received Magnet designation. During the four-year Magnet Recognition designation period, hospitals are closely monitored to ensure their ongoing compliance with program standards.
