Winchester Hospital Receives $2.5 Million Gift to Support Maternity Services
Largest Donation in Hospital History Will Support Renovation of the Labor & Delivery Unit
Winchester MA – Winchester Hospital has received a $2.5 million gift from Cummings Foundation, a Woburn-based charitable entity founded by Bill and Joyce Cummings of Cummings Properties. These funds will support renovating the Labor and Delivery Unit which assists in the births of 2,600 babies every year. As part of this gift, the unit has been named after Dr. Peter Rotolo, who served as an obstetrician and gynecologist at the hospital for 40 years, and as a Trustee for 14 years.
“We are honored and very grateful to Cummings Foundation for their generous gift,” said Al Campbell, RN, FACHE, president of Winchester Hospital. “During his tenure, Dr. Rotolo touched the lives of thousands of mothers and babies and was highly respected by his patients and peers. He will always be known for his professionalism, his leadership in the Winchester community, and his compassionate care, and we are thrilled that Cummings Foundation chose to honor his legacy through the naming of this unit.”
“With so many Cummings colleagues relying on Winchester Hospital for a variety of health care needs, it has been an easy decision to continue increasing our contributions over the years,” said Winchester resident Dennis Clarke, CEO of Cummings Properties and a trustee of Cummings Foundation. “We are certainly not alone in supporting this vital local institution, and we are impressed with the strong donor base that the Hospital has built and inspired through its critical services to Winchester and the surrounding communities.”
In a ceremony today, Dr. Rotolo was honored in tribute and reverence for his leadership, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to the highest professional standards. “I am flattered and overwhelmed by this gesture,” said Rotolo. “It has been my honor and pleasure to welcome into the world thousands of babies at Winchester Hospital. I am thankful to Cummings Foundation for their generous support.”
Renovation plans include updates to the unit’s ten Labor, Delivery and Recovery rooms and nurses’ station. The spaces will be equipped with top-of-the-line technology and equipment and will include other updates to enhance the patient experience, including updates to lighting, furniture, and wall coverings.
