Al Campbell Joins Winchester Hospital as President

Winchester, MA – Al Campbell, RN, MBA, FACHE, has joined Winchester Hospital as its new president. Campbell is an accomplished health care leader with more than 20 years of clinical and executive experience in a variety of health care settings.

Most recently, Campbell served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for BJC Christian Hospital and Northwest Healthcare, a licensed 485-bed regional referral hospital in North St. Louis County, Missouri, known for excellence in cardiac surgery and emergency medicine. In this role, he led acute care operations and oversaw many areas, including construction, real estate, system integration, service line growth, outpatient services, strategic initiatives, fiscal management and academic partnerships.

Campbell previously served as Vice President of Operations for the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina, where he was responsible for ancillary hospital operations and the cancer center. In this role, he successfully led the Mabry Cancer Center into an affiliation with Duke Health Radiation Oncology, ultimately bringing care closer to home for community residents. Campbell has also held previous roles as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Nexus Health in Washington, DC; Executive Administrator of Dimensions Healthcare (now University of Maryland Capital Region) in Maryland; and Senior Director of Operations for Outpatient Behavioral Health at Medstar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.

Campbell began his clinical nursing career in acute rehab and later transitioned into acute care medical surgical and telemetry. While working as a floor nurse, he grew a passion for quality and patient safety and transitioned to a quality nurse role. He ultimately advanced his management career in quality and patient safety, first as a Director of Quality, and then in the role as Chief Quality Officer for the Specialty Hospitals of Washington. He is an experienced leader in performance improvement, care coordination, quality management, regulatory compliance, and patient safety initiatives.

Campbell earned his undergraduate degree from Norfolk State University and Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He has served on the advisory board for the University of Maryland’s School of Healthcare Administration Program, School of Nursing – Nurse Leadership Institute, Co-Chair of the National Association of Health Services Annual Conference (NAHSE), Co-Chair of the Executive Leadership Council for Phi Beta Sigma, Fraternity Inc., Vice Chair of the Imagine Public Charter Schools (Washington, DC) and Member of the American Assembly for Men in Nursing. He is also a Fellow with the American College of Health Care Executives (FACHE).
