Hospital Grant Will Support Access to Technology and Health Programs
Winchester, MA – Winchester Hospital has awarded a $3,000 grant to the Woburn Council on Aging (COA) as part of the hospital’s ongoing commitment to improving the health and well-being of residents throughout our surrounding communities. The grant funding secured the purchase of iPads that were raffled off to 10 lucky seniors, as part of the Woburn COA’s larger effort to offer access to technology, as well as programs and activities aimed at better health of the mind and body for older adults.
“Winchester Hospital is pleased to provide this grant to the Woburn Council on Aging to help support their efforts to promote physical activity among older adults,” said Rick Weiner, MD, president of Winchester Hospital. “Staying physically active as an older adult is vital to maintaining your health and decreasing your risk for chronic diseases such as heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, or high blood pressure. Exercise has also shown to help with mood, promoting better sleep and reducing stress, all factors that can help seniors maintain an independent life.”
“The chance to win an iPad was a fun incentive for a program that combined recreation, exercise, and technology,” said Marie Lingblom, director of the Woburn Council on Aging. “Many thanks to Winchester Hospital for this opportunity to place brand new iPads into the hands of local seniors.”
Eligible seniors included those who participated in at least three wellness and exercise classes over a two-month period last fall. Attendance during the qualifying period totaled more than 1,500 visits, with approximately 200 seniors participating and 84 eligible for the raffle.
