Winchester Hospital Receives Top Quality and Safety Rating from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
Winchester Hospital Earns Five-Out-of-Five-Star Designation
Winchester, MA – Winchester Hospital has received five-out-of-five stars from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in its annual quality and safety assessment of more than 4,500 hospitals across the country. The Overall Hospital Quality Star rating was awarded to only 13.5 percent of 4,586 hospitals in the United States.
“The caregivers at Winchester Hospital are dedicated to providing the highest quality care for our patients and I am proud of their commitment to ensure patients trust us to provide their health care needs,” said Richard Weiner, MD, President of Winchester Hospital. “This five-star rating is a testament to the hard work of our staff who make sure we are delivering exceptional patient care.”
The Overall Hospital Quality Star rating summarizes a variety of measures across five areas of quality into a single star rating for each hospital. Once reporting thresholds are met, a hospital’s overall star rating is calculated using only those measures for which data are available, with the average being about 37 measures. This year, the CMS established a new 2021 methodology in five measure groups: Mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care. This data, found under the CMS’ Hospital Compare tool, is available for consumers to help them compare performance measure information and make informed decisions about where to go for health care.
